XHV-PPS PPS Printing Surface Roughness Meter evaluates surface roughness on high-quality printing-grade glossy paper. It simulates the printing process to measure air leakage between the paper surface and thin metal strips. This measurement is a key factor in determining the printability of paper and paperboard.

1. The instrument is ready-to-use upon delivery. Its touchscreen interface features intuitive menus and large buttons for effortless operation. Operators simply select the test program and position the sample in the designated area to initiate testing. The automated loop function enables continuous reciprocating motion of the probe, allowing repeated testing cycles
2. Position the sample in the designated area. The measurement system activates when the photoelectric tube detects the sample or the manual mode button is pressed. The sample is then automatically clamped under the selected pressure, securing it against the test head.
3. The compressibility of paper samples is determined by measuring surface roughness under two predetermined clamping pressures (simulating linear load effects from different printing methods). Compressibility is expressed either as the percentage reduction in surface roughness or as the ratio of two surface roughness measurements.
4. It is essential to be able to easily verify whether the instrument has been properly calibrated. This enables the use of a fixed inspection sequence to check critical parameters such as air leakage, linearity, and clamping pressure, followed by the generation of a report containing set points and deviations.
5. Repeatability is critical for all test results. PPS testers are individually calibrated and traceable to the original standard instrument.
6. PSS roughness and compressibility can be displayed on a color touchscreen in tabular or graphical formats, or printed using an optional built-in printer.
